Duck Hodges is taking his talents out West.

Hodges no longer had a place in Pittsburgh, as he was relegated to the practice squad and eventually even replaced in that form. The Steelers signed Dwayne Haskins to a futures contract early this offseason, meaning Hodges — who was cut last season — would not return.

An undrafted free agent signing out of Samford, Hodges played a surprising role on the 2019 Steelers after Ben Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending elbow injury. Hodges was elevated to the active roster and eventually received a starting opportunity when Mason Rudolph struggled with injuries of his own. While he’s not the answer at signal-caller for any good NFL team, Hodges is trying to carve out a backup role for himself somewhere. Perhaps the Los Angeles Rams could be that opportunity.

Hodges enters a sticky situation with the Rams in LA

It’s unknown how long the marriage between Sean McVay and former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff will last in Los Angeles, meaning Hodges is entering a fluid quarterback situation.

“I’m not saying anything other than we’re evaluating that right now,” said McVay via a report by Kevin Modesti of the Orange County Register. “And I think it’s important that you do that at every single spot, and no position is excluded from that conversation.”

While it’s unlikely McVay sees much starter potential in Hodges, he’ll be fighting to make the 53-man roster once training camp starts. Steelers fans will never forget the time a man who went by ‘Duck’ nearly led their team to the AFC Playoffs. Pittsburgh wishes him the best in his future endeavors.

Next. The Steelers have nothing to lose with Dwayne Haskins. dark
