Florida football coach Brian Johnson has been hired as the quarterback coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff is falling into place after the hiring of former Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni as their next head coach. Florida’s Brian Johnson is the next man to secure a spot as the Eagles announce that he’ll be taking over as the team’s quarterback coach.

Johnson is no novice when it comes to dealing with high-profile quarterbacks. Johnson has known Eagles quarterback Jalen HUrts since he was a child and even recruited him to Mississippi State when he was Dan Mullen’s quarterback coach.

Brian Johnson hopes to develop Jalen Hurts and fix Carson Wentz with the Eagles

There’s been plenty of speculation surrounding this hire given the uncertainty of the Eagles’ current quarterback situation. Eagles fans have to like what they saw from Hurts this past season but we still aren’t sure what the Nick Sirianni hiring means for Carson Wentz. Either way, the Eagles have their work cut out for them at the quarterback position if they want to right their offensive woes.

Florida sees Johnson walk away after he interviewed with South Carolina and Boise State in recent weeks for head coaching jobs. He instead makes the leap to the pros joining the Eagles. While at Florida, Johnson was mostly responsible for helping transform Florida quarterback Kyle Trask from a backup into a starter into a likely first-round draft pick. Impressive.

Eagles fans have to hope he can have the same success with whoever ends up taking snaps as the starter next season. Florida on the other hand will surely miss what Brian Johnson brought to their offense.
