Auburn football coach Bryan Harsin wins over fans with free Chick-fil-A (Video)
Auburn football coach Bryan Harsin understands that free food is the best food.
Harsin is ingratiating himself with the Auburn fans by giving out Chick-fil-A. That’s a good start. You have to win over the fans.
Harsin wanted more, which is why he came to the SEC from his alma mater Boise State where he led the Broncos to a 64-17 record. He is 71-22, adding his one season at Arkansas State.
While that’s great, it doesn’t matter what he’s done in the past. It matters what he does now with Auburn Tigers, who are in a stacked conference with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and others.
Bryan Harsin needs to do more than give out Chick-fil-A to justify his hire.
Harsin is inheriting a team that went 6-4 in Gus Malzahn’s last season. The Tigers have the No. 37 recruiting class and 11th in the SEC. Four-star recruits Lee Hunter, Ahmari Harvey, and Dematrius Davis headline the class.
Three-star offensive lineman Colby Smith recently signed with the Tigers, but Fly War Eagles’ Andrew Hughes believes that the Tigers need to make a splash on National Signing Day.
The 2021 season won’t be easy for Harsin since he has a brutal schedule. If he can win eight or nine games, he’ll be in good shape. They play LSU and Georgia first to start SEC play and don’t see the Crimson Tide until Nov. 27 in the Iron Bowl.
It would be one heck of a statement made if Harsin can beat the Crimson Tide in his first Iron Bowl appearance. Even if they lose, but the Tigers give the Crimson Tide a good fight, that will bode well for Harsin’s resume.
According to Mary Kate Hughes of Fly War Eagle, the hire was a hit with sophomore defensive lineman Jaren Handy. He also applauded the hiring of new defensive line coach Nick Eason and strength and conditioning coach Jeff Pitman who worked with Harsin at Boise State. Harsin also hired Derek Mason and Mike Bobo as the defensive and offensive coordinators, respectively.
