Penn State football lands elite defensive end Davon Townley.

Penn State football made a big splash on National Signing Day with the addition of four-star defensive end Davon Townley.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Townley is the No. 321 overall recruit, No. 19 strong-side defensive end and No. 3 player in Minnesota. He chose the Nittany Lions over Minnesota, Michigan State, Indiana and others.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder is going to bolster the Nittany Lions pass rush and could do damage in run support as well. After the horrendous season that the Nittany Lions had last year, they needed to pick up a player like Townley. With his commitment, the Nittany Lions have the No. 21 recruiting class in the nation and the No. 6 class in the Big Ten.

Davon Townley is a versatile two-sport athlete

Townley played basketball and football at Minneapolis North Senior High School and that can be beneficial for the Nittany Lions. He knows how to use his athleticism well to get where he wants to go.

On film, you’d be impressed with how well gets off the line of scrimmage and attacks the football.

He may need to add on a little bit more weight to deal with Big Ten offensive linemen, but National Recruiting Analyst Allan Trieu says that he has good upside and plays with intensity. On the basketball court, he has some nice dunking ability. If he can translate that to rip/swim/spin moves in addition to leadership qualities at the college level, he will be a starter for the Nittany Lions.
