The Seahawks are reportedly receiving calls from teams interested in trading for Russell Wilson.

The NFL offseason quarterback market is its own source of drama in 2021. Matthew Stafford being traded to the Los Angeles Rams opened up the madness and Carson Wentz may be on the move soon.

Teams desperate for a new quarterback are making major trade offers and it appears no one is out of the realm of possibility. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported even the Seattle Seahawks are receiving trade calls on Russell Wilson.

Would the Seahawks consider trading Wilson?

Rapoport summed up the odds of a Wilson trade as having “no chance.” It is hard to argue with that and this interest can be chalked up to teams just calling around and seeing who is ultimately available.

Wilson is 32 years old and remains under contract through the 2023 season. He also just threw for a career-high 40 touchdowns and led the Seahawks to an NFC West crown. Seattle is going to want to maximize the talent around Wilson for the duration of his contract in the quest of another Super Bowl title.

Teams all over the NFL likely receive calls about their star players all the time. The Detroit Lions reportedly asked for Aaron Donald in the Stafford trade, so asking for Wilson is not out of the ordinary.

Pete Carroll is going to turn 70 years old at the start of next season and the Seahawks are going to want to end this current era on top. However, a down year or two could end up having the team move on from Carroll and offer up Wilson in a trade. At a minimum, that would cause them to seriously listen to the trade calls.

That is just not the reality of the situation at this point. Teams seeking a quarterback should be focused on the likes of Deshaun Watson, Sam Darnold, and Derek Carr. Wilson is still a Pro-Bowl-caliber quarterback for Seattle and those don’t come around often.
