The NCAA Selection committee offered a sneek peek into March Madness on Saturday.

It has been almost two years since the last NCAA Tournament after the 2020 edition was canceled due to the coronavirus. We are just over a month away from the return of March Madness, an event that is now one step closer with the reveal of the Selection Committee’s Top 16 teams.

This exercise, which has been done for the past several years, comes as a nice complement to the bracketology and bubble watch fever that sweeps the nation at this time of the year is a valuable tool to see where the top teams lie in comparison to each other. Let’s break down the top 16 seeds one line at a time, beginning with the one seeds.

March Madness seed reveal – No. 1 Seeds

No. 1 – Gonzaga

In news that will come as a shock to no one, Gonzaga is the top overall seed. The unbeaten Bulldogs are in hot pursuit of an unbeaten season. Selection committee chair Mitch Barnhart noted this was a clear choice for the top overall seed.

No. 2 – Baylor

The Bears have been the 1A to Gonzaga’s 1 all year long so this isn’t a shock at all. Currently on a COVID pause, Baylor is still undefeated as well.

No. 3 – Michigan

The Wolverines are the first Big Ten team on the board but haven’t played in a few weeks due to a COVID pause. That ends tomorrow when Michigan faces off with Wisconsin in a critical conference matchup.

No. 4 – Ohio State

This is an incredible turnaround for the Buckeyes, who were unranked in the beginning of January and now claim the final No. 1 seed. Ohio State leads the nation in Quadrant I wins so their resume is tremendous.
