Seattle Mariners president Kevin Mather spoke at a rotary breakfast and some of his comments have fans ready for the team to fire him immediately.

This weekend, Seattle Mariners team president Kevin Mather is stealing headlines across the country for all the wrong reasons. Mather spoke at a Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club on Saturday and there’s a long list of absurd things he said.

Among those comments was saying that star prospect Julio Rodriguez’s English “isn’t tremendous” and that this is probably Kyle Seager’s last season with the team, while also revealing prospect Jarred Kelenic won’t make the Opening Day roster.

He also said former pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma’s English was terrible, and he complained about having to pay his translator $75,000 a year. As you might imagine, Mariners fans out there are not happy with Mather.

Mariners fans are calling for Kevin Mather to lose his job as soon as possible

A look at Twitter on Sunday tells you how incredibly frustrated Mariners fans are with Mather. Matter of fact, if it were up to them, they’d want Mather to be out of a job by Monday.

The fact that the #FireKevinMather hashtag is catching serious steam tells you how angry Seattle fans are. It’s easy to understand why. Mather has come out and made some simply offensive remarks regarding the team.

Here he thought he was being funny or coy, but the opposite is the case. How do you think the players feel about this right now, especially guys like Rodriguez? There’s just no room for this kind of talk, period.

We’ll see if the Mariners come out and release a statement this weekend, but the damage sure has been done already.
