Baylor basketball looks to bounce back from their first loss of the season when the Bears travel to West Virginia to take on Bob Huggins’ Mountaineers.

For most of the season, the consensus in college basketball circles has been that Gonzaga and Baylor were the two best teams in the country. The Bulldogs have lived up to the hype, entering the WCC Tournament with an undefeated record, but the Bears have hit a speed bump thanks to a COVID pause.

Baylor was forced out of action for three weeks and looked extremely rusty in a tight win over Iowa State, which entered the matchup winless in Big 12 play. The sluggishness continued at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday as the Bears lost 71-58 to Kansas in a game where they shot just 34.8 percent from the floor and hit just 6-of-26 three-point attempts.

Head coach Scott Drew was quick to blame the pause for Baylor’s struggles, indicating that he felt his team was still shaking off the rust from its layoff against Kansas. Things won’t get any easier for the Bears tonight as they hit the road once again to take on No. 6 West Virginia.

The Mountaineers had a solid week where they took care of business against TCU and Kansas State to extend their winning streak to three consecutive games. Losses by other teams inside the Top 10 have helped West Virginia, which is now poised to land on the two-line if the regular season was to end today.

Going to Morgantown is never easy and this could be a difficult ask for Baylor to get their act together for a tough road trip against a Top 10 foe. This win could also be an emphatic one for the Mountaineers, who are trying to make a late push to sneak onto the top line on Selection Sunday.
