The Chicago Bears were reportedly ready to try and sign Ben Roethlisberger if he and the Pittsburgh Steelers parted ways this offseason.

With so many different rumors flying surrounding Ben Roethlisberger this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers went ahead and put the kibosh on everything when they announced the veteran quarterback would return in 2021. The two sides restructured Roethlisberger’s deal and now he’ll be back under center at Heinz Field.

However, had the Steelers and Big Ben gotten a proverbial divorce, there’s one team who would have been ready to make a move to try and get him to town: the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears were ready to make a move to land Ben Roethlisberger this offseason

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, Chicago and Ryan Pace were indeed ready to reach out to Roethlisberger if he was going to become a free agent. Fortunately for Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger and the front office figured everything out with his salary and he’ll look to end his career the right way with the team.

As for the Bears, the team’s situation at quarterback is clear as mud. Mitch Trubisky could end up returning as the starter. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson has been mentioned in countless trade talks that would send him to the Windy City. The Bears are on Wilson’s shortlist to for teams he’d accept a deal too.

With Chicago putting out a stellar defense every Sunday, the team is just waiting for a stud signal-caller to lead the offense to compliment the other side of the ball. Unfortunately for Chicago, Roethlisberger is back in Pittsburgh and won’t be donning a Chicago uniform. With Wilson, it feels unlikely the Seahawks will trade him, but you never know what might happen.
