Massive news has arrived for the Green Bay Packers, with star running back Aaron Jones signing a new four-year deal with the organization.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the Green Bay Packers have pulled off quite the move and it’s sure to leave Aaron Rodgers grinning from ear to ear. That news, of course, is that running back Aaron Jones isn’t going anywhere in free agency, as he’s signed a new four-year contract.

In an extra bonus for the Green Bay front office and general manager Brian Gutekunst, they were able to bring back Jones on a steal, with him taking less money to keep playing at Lambeau Field for the next four campaigns.

Aaron Jones taking less money to stay with the Packers is huge for Green Bay

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jones’ four-year deal will pay him $48 million, with a $13 million signing bonus also part of things. While this is not a small chunk of change Green Bay is throwing to Jones, there’s no question he could have received more dough in free agency.

For a while now, the running back had been linked with a move to the Dolphins, who seemed ready to throw him some big bucks this offseason to get him to join Tua Tagovailoa and Co. down in Florida. However, that won’t be happening.

If you’re wondering why Jones took less money to stay with Green Bay, having the opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl next season is surely among the reasons on his list. The Packers were the No. 1 seed in the NFC this past season and looked destined to meet the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had other ideas.

Looking ahead to next season, Green Bay figures to be right in the mix once again. Having Jones in the backfield making plays for Rodgers and head man Matt LaFleur will be huge in making those Super Bowl dreams become a reality.
