The Washington Football Team could address their quarterback needs by adding Mitchell Trubisky.

Sometimes a top draft pick’s career goes wrong because of the system fit. Although Matt Nagy’s system worked in Kansas City, that doesn’t mean the Chicago Bears were better off with him.

He’ll back to prove he’s still a viable coach in 2021 following the team’s implosion against the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round.

Mitchell Trubisky will likely need to find a new home instead of returning to the Windy City.

The former No. 2 pick by the Bears never found his footing after a Pro Bowl season in 2018. Call it regression, call it lack of potential. Either way, it now has Bears’ fans regretting passing on superstars such as Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson back in 2017.

Trubisky still offers value as a low-end starter. With the right system, perhaps he can even prove that he’s capable of being a top name under center for years to come.

That system might have addressed itself over the weekend.

According to NFL Insider Benjamin Allbright, the Washington Football Team could be intrigued by adding Trubisky this offseason. Washington currently is not set with their quarterback situation following the release of NFL Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith.

Would Washington be a good fit for Mitchell Trubisky?

Playing in 10 games, the 26-year-old Trubisky went 6-3 as a starter, recording 2,055 passing yards with 16 touchdowns against eight interceptions. He won three of five down the stretch to help the Bears finish 8-8, returning to the postseason for the first time since 2018.

For his career, Trubisky has thrown for 10,609 yards and 64 touchdowns against 37 interceptions. He’s 29-21 as a starter.

With over $37 million in salary cap space, WFT is expected to fix several areas of need in the offseason. Washington already franchise tagged Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff and is expected to add at least one wide receiver on the free agent market.

Washington only had wide receiver Terry McLaurin and tight end Logan Thomas record more than 50 receptions on the season.

Trubisky’s best bet to revitalize his career is to move on with another team. Ron Rivera has shown that he can win with low-end starters, taking WFT to their first NFC East divisional win since 2015.

Based on the pricing, Trubisky could be the right fit in D.C. to help the team win. Washington could also be the right team to help Trubisky reach his full potential.
