The New York Mets have received some tough news, as it’s looking like veteran pitcher Carlos Carrasco won’t be ready to rock for his first scheduled start.

New York Mets fans are used to the team facing some early adversity, and that’s once again going to be the case in 2021. In spring training, the team was dealt with some rough news on pitcher Carlos Carrasco, as the righty experienced elbow discomfort last week.

While he was back on track after throwing a bullpen session, Carrasco has now suffered a new hamstring injury and will undergo an MRI. Because of this, it’s looking like he won’t be ready to go for the start of the new campaign.

Where is the luck for the Mets? Indeed, Carrasco seemed like he’d be ready to make his first start of the season, but we can go ahead and hold the phone on that. Carrasco spent the first 11 years of his career in Cleveland but made his way to Queens as part of the blockbuster trade that also sent Francisco Lindor to New York.

There’s a new belief and hope outside Citi Field, as Steve Cohen has arrived to the team and made it clear he’s ready for the Mets to not only be competitive, but put themselves in a position to unseat both the Braves and Nationals as kings of the NL East.

With Carrasco, while this is a setback, this hamstring injury doesn’t appear to be serious. For now, he’ll undergo an MRI and hope that he’ll only have to miss a short amount of time on the bump for the team. Until then, New York will look to get off to a strong start in the regular season without him.
