Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman gave an update to the ongoing efforts to trade Zach Ertz.

The end is nigh for Zach Ertz, at least in terms of his time with the Philadelphia Eagles.

While there’s still gas left in his Pro Bowl tank, Ertz is almost certainly going to continue his career in a new uniform. After a tumultuous season both for Ertz and the Eagles, this offseason has seen both Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz jettisoned from Philly and a trade request submitted by Ertz.

Howie Roseman is working to honor that request, but while the parting of ways seems mutual in Philly there is zero rush on the part of the Eagles to get a deal done that the front office doesn’t deem acceptable.

Zach Ertz trade rumors update

Roseman spoke on Thursday about the efforts to trade Ertz but didn’t give the impression that any deal was close. In fact, it sounds like things are going much slower than anyone anticipated for one reason or another.

“For us to trade any player, it’s gotta make sense for both sides. None of us had the year we wanted to have last year, but that doesn’t define us. We know who he is on and off the field and we value that,” Roseman said in a press conference.

In other words, the offers the Eagles are getting for Ertz are less than stellar. Therein lies the potential struggle, as Philly not having its trade demands met means one of two things: Their asking price is too high or teams are trying to acquire a Pro Bowl tight end on the cheap.

Both could be true at the same time.

Philadelphia dealt Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 pick that will be either a first or second-rounder based on Wentz’s performance with the Colts this season.

It’s not outside the realm of possibility that Roseman is looking for the same type of deal for a player he knows is both in demand and better than Wentz.

According to Benjamin Allbright, the Bills and Chargers are two teams with offers on the table for Ertz but the Eagles want those deals sweetened. Buffalo recently dealt Lee Smith to the Falcons thus freeing up room on the depth chart for Ertz and the Chargers have been hellbent on using this offseason to turn the roster over and into a contender — an effort that acquiring Ertz would seemingly complete.
