Former MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens now have another weapon to do some damage with on offense.

After failing to get their hands on JuJu Smith-Schuster and T.Y. Hilton in free agency, the Ravens finally landed a much-needed veteran wide receiver for Jackson to throw to. While the star quarterback’s running abilities are well-documented, Baltimore needed to start putting playmakers around him in its wide receiving corps.

Between Watkins, Marquise Brown and a rookie from the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft, that corps is finally starting to take shape.

Last year with the Chiefs, the 27-year-old Watkins caught 37 receptions for 421 yards in 10 games. He only scored two touchdowns, but Kansas City had a plethora of options to choose from. Switching from one MVP in Patrick Mahomes to another in Lamar Jackson, Watkins’ experience will be provide a much-needed boost to Baltimore’s offense.

Drafted out of Clemson in 2014, Watkins has spent seven seasons in the NFL, split between the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams and Chiefs. He’s caught 321 passes for 4,665 yards and 33 touchdowns for his career.

The Ravens took a few swings and misses on a few higher-quality wide receiver targets, but Watkins is a cost-effective signing and finally adds a veteran to the mix for Jackson.
