The Green Bay Packers have their eyes set on a certain wide receiver prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst received a ton of flak from media pundits and their whole fanbase in last year’s NFL Draft for failing to provide quarterback Aaron Rodgers with a new wide receiver. One year later, the Packers have their eyes set on one pass-catcher in particular.

According to Tony Pauline of the Pro Football Network, the Packers are high on Iowa wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. But, they could have competition, as Pauline lists the Washington Football Team and Buffalo Bills as other teams who highly-regard Smith-Marsette.

Smith-Marsette is not a Day 1 prospect, but he could end up being a steal for the Packers if he is still on the board when they are on the clock.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 175-pounds, Smith-Marsette possesses electric speed that makes him a threat in the passing game and as a returner. As we all know, the Packers have struggled with kick and punt returns ever since they traded Trevor Davis to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Through his four seasons at Iowa, Smith-Marsette caught 110 passes for 1,165 yards and 14 touchdowns, while returning 53 kicks for 1,520 yards and two scores.

Even though the Packers did not take one of the top wide receivers on the board to instead select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, the once-derided receiving corps thrived in 2020. Rodgers managed to throw for 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns and five interceptions on a 70.7 completion percentage, leading to him winning the NFL MVP award for the third time of his career.

Despite the Packers receiving corps having success in 2020, they are coming off back-to-back NFC Championship Game options. At this stage of Rodgers’ career, the front office needs to give the quarterback as many weapons as possible to ensure he makes it to the Super Bowl for the second time of his career.

For you Packers fans wanting the team to draft a wideout, keep your eyes peeled for Smith-Marsette during the NFL Draft next month.
