Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. NFC. Green Bay Packers. player. 49. North. 2

The Packers notably ignored a loaded wide receiver class in the 2020 draft, and surely they won’t make that mistake again this year. Right? In any case they haven’t taken a notable stab at a veteran wide receiver in free agency. Faith in Allen Lazard and Marques Valdez-Scantling is one thing, but Green Bay is in a win-now window with Aaron Rodgers. Their refusal to restructure his contract lines up 2021 to possibly be the reigning MVP’s last year in a Packers’ uniform.

Back-to-back NFC Championship Game appearances is fine, but the next step has to happen this year or it may not happen while Rodgers is still the quarterback. Which may be fine with the Packers, as they prepare to give the keys to Jordan Love as soon as next year.

But let’s think with that win-now window in mind. The Packers have natural narrowed it to this year, as they refuse to kick the salary cap can down the road and give Rodgers some future security (right or wrong). Signing Brown to a deal (likely loaded with incentives) is a move made with 2021, and only 2021, in mind. And he can keep playing with an all-time great quarterback, which should appeal to him apart from any financial considerations/harsh realities.
