Regis Prograis makes his Triller Fight Club debut against Ivan Redkach on April 17. Prograis talked to FanSided about his upcoming fight and the future.

Regis Prograis fought his last bout under the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) banner on Showtime in October, but he’s giving Triller Fight Club a try in his upcoming bout against Ivan Redkach.

Prograis (25-1, 21 KOs) was the WBA junior lightweight champion but lost a very close majority decision to Josh Taylor in 2019 in the World Boxing Super Series tournament final. He was signed to DiBella Entertainment, but they kindly ended their partnership in the spring of 2020.

Prograis signed a one-fight deal with PBC, but Triller came along with the right event for his next fight against Redkach on Saturday, April 17.

“I definitely still want to be PBC and Al Haymon, you know, but this is an opportunity that I can’t turn down,” Prograis told FanSided. “Also, it’s hard to turn the opportunity down, you know, because it’s such a big platform.”

Al Haymon and PBC are still the frontrunners for Prograis’s services moving forward, but Triller came in with the right fight against Redkach. Still, Prograis has a lot of respect for Haymon. Prograis’s friends Jermell and Jermall Charlo have been big advocates of Haymon.

“The Charlo twins was like, real good friends of mine,” said Prograis. “We kind of grew up and stuff. They always told me, ‘Al Haymon, Al Haymon, you got to go with Al Haymon.'”

A big win over Redkach would set up a significant fight for Prograis. Several notable boxers have disrespectfully mentioned Prograis’s name.

After his controversial decision victory over Jovanie Santiago in February, Adrien Broner said that he would “f**k him up” when asked about Prograis during the post-fight press conference. To be fair, Prograis did mention Broner first as a desirable opponent.

Broner still thinks a matchup with Broner is possible but wouldn’t be competitive.

Regis Prograis has some detractors in Adrien Broner and Gervonta Davis, but Ivan Redkach is up first in his Triller Fight Club bout

“Based on his last performance, he [Broner] looked like s**t,” said Prograis of Broner’s last performance. “You know, that dude was terrible.

“The fight maybe still can happen because every time people talk to him, they say Regis Prograis. And every time people talk to me, they say Adrien Broner. That’s something the fans want to see.”

In early March, WBA super featherweight and lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis tweeted a crude message stating he would “beat the s**t” out of Prograis. The two went on to trade words on Twitter, but Prograis was caught off guard by Davis’s hostility.

“I was like, what? Where is this coming from?” said Prograis. “That’s a little dude to me. They make weight classes for a reason. He better not ever step up to me because I will hurt him.”

Ironically, Prograis’s next opponent Redkach has an interesting history with Davis. In the summer of 2020, Davis released an edited video of his sparring sessions with Redkach, showing him getting the better of Redkach. That episode resulted in drama between Davis and Redkach on social media. Prograis felt that move was below the belt.

“Yeah, it was kind of messed up,” said Prograis. “You don’t do nothing like that. You don’t put out footage and stuff. And then you gonna show 20-30 seconds. You don’t know what I was doing to him before that.”

A fight with Davis isn’t likely since Prograis is a junior welterweight, but Davis is rumored to be moving up divisions, possibly against Mario Barrios. Davis’s future is in flux after his recent indictment on numerous criminal charges stemming from a November hit-and-run accident.

In truth, Prograis thinks the welterweight division would be the best place for him physically, but junior lightweight is where the money is.

“I want to be at 147, but I just feel like there’s so many big fights right now, for me at 140, I just can’t turn down,” said Prograis.

Prograis has many options at his disposal, but he needs to defeat Redkach first for his boxing future to flourish.
