The New Jersey Devils are not cool with their fans getting engaged to New York Rangers fans.

Even in adulthood, people make terrible decisions all the time, like being a New Jersey Devils fan and getting engaged to someone who supports the New York Rangers. Like, why would you do that?

A Devils fan tweeted at the team’s official account saying that she is really sorry for getting engaged to a Rangers fan. Too bad the Devils were absolutely ruthless with their quote tweet of the happy couple. True love is great and all, but bitter rivalries run deep, especially on the ice. The worst part is she is so settling for man who supports a team who has not won a cup since 1994.

These two bitter rivals share the same metro area with the other NHL franchise known as the New York Islanders. While the Devils have mostly fallen on hard times since all-world goalie Martin Brodeur retired, New Jersey has won more Stanley Cups since 1995 (three) than the Rangers have won since 1940 (one). Math can be your friend or your enemy.

Getting engaged or marrying a fellow sports fan certainly has its benefits, regardless of if you root for the same collection of teams. However, agreeing to spend the rest of your life with someone who actively roots for a rival club of yours is never going to end well. The house will be divided and the offspring will have to choose sides. Think about the offspring and how hard it will be for them!

Congratulations to the couple, but we are mostly happy to see the Devils dunk all over them.
