Tigers fans witnessed a special moment Sunday when Akil Baddoo hit a home run in his first career MLB at-bat.

The Detroit Tigers decided to take a chance on the 22-year-old Akil Baddoo. He was selected as part of the Rule 5 draft, meaning he had to make the Opening Day roster or be sent back to the Minnesota Twins.

Baddoo made it into the lineup Sunday and stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the third inning. It only took one pitch for him to become a legend.

Akil Baddoo makes quite the debut in Detroit

Baddoo was making his first ever MLB plate appearance and did not waste any time taking pitches. And not only did he hit a home run, but he went opposite field and flipped the bat immediately. He knew it was gone and Tigers fans have to be loving his confidence.

The camera panned to his family going absolutely wild and he was clearly excited rounding the bases. Twins fans may be left wondering why the team didn’t protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

Seeing a young player flip his bat is awesome. Baseball is supposed to be fun and Baddoo just hit a home run on his first career pitch. He could have thrown the bat in the stands and it still would have been a fun moment.

The Tigers are a young, rebuilding team stacked with top prospects. Adding Baddoo was a bonus this offseason and the early results are exhilarating. Tigers fans will want to see many more bat flips out of the young outfielder as the year rolls along.
