The Chicago White Sox have placed star shortstop Tim Anderson on the 10-day injured list with a strained hamstring.

The start to the Chicago White Sox’s 2021 season has not gone as they had planned. Prior to Opening Day, outfielder Eloy Jimenez was ruled out for the next five-to-six months with a torn pectoral muscle. Things only got worse for the White Sox, as star shortstop Tim Anderson exited in the first inning of this past Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with left hamstring tightness. As it turns out, the injury will keep him out for some time.

On Wednesday, the White Sox announced that they have placed Anderson on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left hamstring. In a corresponding move, the White Sox have recalled Danny Mendick from the team’s training facility.

White Sox: Tim Anderson placed on injured list with hamstring strain

Manager Tony La Russa told the media (via Chuck Garfien of NBC Sports Chicago) on Wednesday the decision to place Anderson on the injured list was more precautionary than anything. Even though the shortstop has made improvement on the field, La Russa said they feel he will be ready to go on April 15, when he is eligible to come off the list.

Hours after this update was provided, White Sox outfielder Billy Hamilton left Wednesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners with…left hamstring tightness.

Anderson had only played in four games prior to his injury, as he went 3-for-15 with one home run, one RBI and three runs scored.

Mendick started in place of Anderson against the Mariners on Wednesday, a position he will fill until the shortstop’s return off the injury list. Through 33 games with the White Sox last season, Mendick slashed .243/.281/.383 while recording three home runs, six RBI, 11 runs scored and 26 hits.

The White Sox will be without Anderson for their weekend series against the Kansas City Royals, but there is a possibility he will be back for the team’s series finale against the Cleveland Indians next Thursday.
