It only took one round for Jake Paul to beat a real, live fighter, and he’s laughing off the doubters now.

A first-round decision by the lead official cost Askren a chance at redemption after taking a shot to the head. While controversial in Askren’s corner, it was pretty clearly the right move to limit any further damage considering the hits he’d already taken.

Askren even apologized after the fight.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, this served as the high point of Paul’s fighting career thus far. The Youtube sensation turned boxing-wannabe has actually proven himself on a national stage — and no, we’re not talking about that time he knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson.

Askren was a legitimate challenger, even if it didn’t look that way in the ring. That’s why Paul’s laughing off the doubters all the way to the bank.

Jake Paul’s boxing career off to a theatric start

Paul has now won all three of his career boxing decisions by knockout, prompting many to call on even tougher competition. Now that he’s proven himself against someone with fighting prowess, perhaps Paul can step into the ring with a boxing icon next.

Either way, Paul hypes up his fights better than most, prompting for a rich payday for anyone willing to get in the ring with him. So, in a way, despite Askren hitting the mat on Saturday night, he also came out of this experience a winner.
