3 things we learned from Dana White’s UFC Vegas 11 post-fight press conference

In the aftermath of UFC Vegas 11, UFC President Dana White touched on an array of different topics.
There was a lot to discuss following the main event between Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley. Any fight involving Covington usually involves most of the narrative being about the out of the cage antics, especially when against a rival such as Woodley. But when he also performs very well against a former UFC champion and follows up the fight by saying controversial things, it leaves the audience with much to assess and dissect.
Aside from the main event, we were left with many questions surrounding the uncertain future of Woodley and Donald Cerrone. As well as the apparent very bright future of Khamat Chimaev, freedom of speech and more. UFC president, Dana White, fielded these questions in the aftermath of last night’s event.
Here are three things we learned.
Dana White believes Colby Covington is one of the best fighters in the world
The relationship between Covington and UFC president Dana White has had its fair share of troubles over the past couple of years. But that didn’t get in the way of White giving Covington his due. In the post-fight presser following the TKO win over Woodley, White was adamant that he understands that many people view Covington’s antics as being absurd. But that he believes that Covington is one of the best in the world and that cannot be denied. White cited his performance in the title fight against Kamaru Usman as another prime example of the excellence of Covington saying it was one of the best fights he’s ever seen.
Dana White thinks Tyron Woodley should retire
Words weren’t minced when posed with the question of where he thought Woodley stands in his career right now following his third straight loss. White outright said he believes that the former welterweight champion should think about hanging up the gloves and calling it a career. He credited Woodley with achieving great things in the sport but believes that the Woodley that showed up to fight Covington is past the point of no return in terms of the possible revitalization of his career.
Dana White thinks Khamzat Chimzat might be the most special fighter he has ever seen
White had the excitement level of a hardcore fan when asked to comment on Chimzat. He said that he has been in this game his whole life and has never seen anything like him, that he has never been in a position where he is scrambling to get enough fights to keep up with such an eager fighter’s demand. It’s no secret that the willingness to compete on a whim is one of the traits the White values the most, but it seems as though Chimzat has raised the bar higher than anyone before him, and it’s clearly making quite the impression.
