ONE Championship: Who is Bruno Pucci?

Although he’s preparing to make his ninth appearance inside the ONE Championship cage, still little is known about Brazilian mixed martial artist Bruno Pucci.

Born on July 23, 1990, in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, Bruno Pucci began his journey into combat sports at a young age after Pucci developed growth problems and needed hormone replacement therapy due to being shorter and weaker than most kids his age.

Because the therapy came with the side effect of weight gain, Pucci decided he wanted to take up a sport that could help him remain in shape and chose Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Pucci would become a black belt in the discipline under Sebastian Lalli and go on to win gold medals in 2009 and 2010 at the No-Gi Grappling World Championship in Long Beach, CA.

On Oct.15, 2011, about a year after his successful run in Long Beach, Pucci would begin his mixed martial arts career. Pucci would start off on a tear, defeating Raoni Tavares, Fernando Cabral, and Bashir Ahmad all by rear-naked choke with only one of his first three opponents making it out of the first round and making him 3-0 as a professional very quickly.

His Sept. 13, 2013 win over Ahmad was a great way to debut for Chatri Sityodtong and ONE Championship. Since the debut, Pucci is 4-3 with the promotion with each outing being decided by way of finish.

His biggest victory would come in 2018 when Pucci married the current ONE strawweight champion, Angela Lee. Pucci looks to build on the momentum created by Lee after her victory at ONE: Century.

Currently, the 7-3 Evolve MMA product is preparing for a scrap with Japan’s Shuya Kamikubo at ONE: Edge of Greatness. Kamikubo, who currently sits at 10-1-1 and is riding the momentum wave of a 6 fight winning streak, is sure to be Pucci’s toughest challenge to date.

The BJJ practitioner will look to stop a man who has never been finished in his professional career as he hopes to climb the ranks of ONE Championships lightweight division.
