Green Bay Packers start Aaron Rodgers could want out of his contract, but what exactly is it?

The news that shock the world broke on Thursday afternoon when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers would like out of his current deal with the team.

Enter the madness that is the pre-madness of the 2021 NFL Draft, right?

Schefter reported that the 37-year-old quarterback is disgruntled with the team’s situation entering the offseason. This is already building off the frustration from last season when Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst traded up in the first round to select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love as his successor.

When that happened, the clock started ticking on his current contract. Here’s the question: what is his current deal?

Aaron Rodgers’ contract plays in his favor for another team, right?

Back in 2018, Rodgers agreed to a five-year extension with the franchise that would keep him in Green Bay until 2023 worth $134 million. As of now, the Packers do not owe the veteran gunslinger any more of his guaranteed money.

Should Rodgers still elect to play instead of retire or if a

team were to trade for him,

he would earn $37.2 million for 2021 and $39.8 million in ’22. The price lowers once again in ’23 to a mere $28.3 million in cap hit.

Rodgers only reset his market following the 2020 season, he threw for over 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns against five interceptions. Since his pairing with Matt LaFleur, Green Bay is 26-6 in the regular season.

The team has fallen just short both times of making it back to the Super Bowl, losing in both NFC Championship games.
