The St. Louis Cardinals just took down the Philadelphia Phillies in walk-off fashion thanks to a wild pitch on Thursday.

This is most certainly not how St. Louis Cardinals fans envisioned how things would end on Thursday, but they’ll surely take it. In a showdown with the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis was able to get the job done in walk-off fashion.

So, was it a homer, clutch double, or single to end things? Nope, instead it was a wild pitch that helped the Cardinals defeat the Phillies in this one.

A wild pitch got things done for the Cardinals going up against the Phillies

Unreal. As you can see in the video above, St. Louis had runners on the corners in the bottom of the 10th. Phillies hurler David Hale let one get away from him and JT Realmuto couldn’t use his typical magic to block the poor toss.

Seconds later, Tyler O’Neill crossed home plate and he was surrounded by his teammates to celebrate the victory. Again, no one probably drew this one up ahead of the first pitch, but a walk-off is a walk-off. With the victory, St. Louis is now 13-12 on the year.

The Cardinals sit in second place of the NL Central standings following the win, sitting 1.5 games back behind the Milwaukee Brewers. After acquiring Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies during the offseason, fans began to dream about the team potentially going on a deep postseason run.

It’s still early on in the campaign, but the club sure looks ready to make plenty of noise this season. The Brewers may be in first place right now in the division, but St. Louis will do everything possible to change that as soon as possible.
