Mac Jones is looking to live up to expectations and be a true heir to Tom Brady’s throne in New England.

The run on quarterbacks early continued with pick No. 15 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The New England Patriots drafted Mac Jones and he immediately gets the fun task of trying to fill Tom Brady’s shoes in New England.

Jones will also be competing with Cam Newton in 2021. However, being taken so high proves Bill Belichick sees Jones as a worthy successor to Brady. Can he live up to that hype?

Will Mac Jones fill the shoes left by Tom Brady?

This is a lot of pressure for a rookie quarterback to take on the moment after he is drafted. But it is all part of the process and that is even more true for any quarterback now taking snaps in New England.

The Alabama quarterback threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2020 as his team rolled to a national championship. That shot his stock through the roof and he was rumored to be going as high as No. 3 overall to the San Francisco 49ers.

Living up to Brady is nearly impossible for anyone to do. He is one of the best professional athletes in sports history and has done things that may never be seen again. A good starting point may be to ask if Jones can become a successful starter and lead the Patriots to even one more Super Bowl victory.

Who knows? The Patriots must think that is the case if they avoided making any trades this offseason and ultimately decided upon re-signing Newton and drafting Jones.
