Twitter reacted to the New England Patriots selecting Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with the 15th-overall pick.

Many expected the New England Patriots to try and trade into the top 10 of the 2021 NFL Draft to get a quarterback. As it turns out, the Patriots did not even have to make a move, because a signal caller fell right into their laps.

With the 15th-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Patriots selected quarterback Mac Jones. This is the first time that head coach Bill Belichick has selected a signal caller in the first round, and they do so by stopping Jonesā€™ slide in the first-round.

Of course, Twitter reacted accordingly.

Patriots: Mac Jones heading to New England after brief first-round slide

Entering Draft Night, the heavy expectation was that Jones would be taken third-overall by the San Francisco 49ers, given the reported infatuation head coach Kyle Shanahan had for him. Yet, the team threw a curveball by selecting North Dakota Stateā€™s Trey Lance.

The Chicago Bears traded up to the 11th pick by sending a draft haul to the New York Giants, but they did so to select Ohio Stateā€™s Justin Fields. While Jones did have to wait, it was not for long after he received a phone call from New England to let him know he was going to be a Patriot.

While Jones does not have the running ability like his fellow quarterback classmates, he does hold the distinction of being the most accurate of the bunch. This past season, Jones completed 77.4-percent of his passes for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and four interceptions in 13 games.

Now, Jones joins New England with a likely chance of starting this season. Jones will have a plethora of help if he does get the nod from Belichick, as he has the likes of Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne.

Whatever the case may be, the Patriots appear to have their contingency plan post-Tom Brady in place with Mac Jones.
