Patrick Mahomes and Mecole Hardman have hilarious exchange over the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s 40-yard dash time.

This past weekend, the NFL world learned that former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick still has his signature speed. While participating in Rich Eisen’s “Run Rich Run” fundraising special for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Vick logged a ridiculous 4.72-second 40-yard dash time at the age of 40.

That opened up the eyes and dropped the jaws of many, including Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who said that Vick is still faster than him. That was when Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman jumped in on Twitter, asking if his quarterback actually ran a 4.8-second 40-yard dash. Mahomes rebutted by saying he only looks fast because he is running scared.

Mahomes can at least poke fun at himself. And yes, the Chiefs quarterback did log a 4.8 40-time during the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, for those of you wondering.

The former 2018 NFL MVP has shown that he can run for significant yards when need be during games. But in this past Super Bowl, Mahomes was basically running for his life against the defense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Without Eric Fisher or Mitchell Schwartz active for the game, Mahomes actually ran 497 yards before his passes and sacks. That was how bad of a time the quarterback had in Tampa.

This upcoming season, Mahomes will not have to run scared anymore. The team signed guards Joe Thuney and Kyle Long, acquired Baltimore Ravens tackle Orlando Brown Jr. in a trade, and added Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey and Tennessee guard Trey Smith in the 2021 NFL Draft. It was truly a great job by general manager Brett Veach to ensure nothing like Super Bowl 55 would never happen again.

In 2021, we can guarantee that Mahomes will purely be a pocket passer considering the amount of talent that will be blocking for him at the line of scrimmage.
