St. Louis Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty hit the first home run of his major league career on Friday night, a rarity for pitchers and certainly for him.

Flaherty has some pop in his bat, who knew? While the primary draw for the Rockies series in St. Louis is the first battle between Nolan Arenado and his former team, Flaherty provided plenty of entertainment for the Busch Stadium faithful in his own right.

Flaherty delivered his first career home run, a 416-foot bomb.

Even better than the home run itself was the reaction from the St. Louis dugout, which included longtime Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. Waino has a decent bat himself, but Flaherty’s home run was an absolute bomb. There’s no way he saw that coming.

St. Louis Cardinals taking advantage of Milwaukee Brewers slump

Ironically enough, just as the Brewers got healthy, they started struggling. Milwaukee has lost six straight games and is now just one game above .500. At the same time, the Cardinals have surged into first place.

Talk about a nice time to go see a ballgame at Busch Stadium.
