New starting quarterbacks D.J. Uiagalelei and Bryce Young have great Heisman Trophy odds.

Even if the Alabama football team and the Clemson football program are ushering in new starting quarterbacks this season, that hasn’t stopped Bryce Young and D.J. Uiagalelei from having very strong Heisman Trophy odds.

Uiagalelei has to replace No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence in Clemson, while Young has to step up with Davey O’Brien winner and No. 15 overall pick Mac Jones also turning pro.

Frankly, it should not matter all that much, as Uiagalelei and Young were five-star recruits coming out of high school in 2020. Where do they stack up amongst each other and with the other 2021 Heisman hopefuls?

  2. Clemson Tigers quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei: +650
  3. Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young: +800
  4. Georgia Bulldogs quarterback JT Daniels: +1000
  5. North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Sam Howell: +1300
  6. Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King: +1500
  7. Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson: +1500

Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler has the best odds at +600, but Uiagalelei and Young are right there at +650 and +800, respectively. Georgia quarterback JT Daniels comes in at +1000, with North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell, Miami quarterback D’Eriq King and Texas running back Bijan Robinson all at +1500 or better.

Daniels, Howell, King and Rattler all have significantly more starting experience than Uiagalelei and Young, yet they are ahead of all but Rattler when it comes to early 2021 Heisman odds.

It is clear people are banking on their five-star talent, as well as playing for two college football powerhouses expected to make the College Football Playoff.

Playing for a national power gives these two first-year starters a shot at winning a Heisman.
