Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts could not help but poke fun at new player Albert Pujols.

In recent years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have shown they are more than accommodating to bringing in as much big-name talent as possible to help them contend for the World Series. On Saturday, reports indicated that the Dodgers were going to sign former Angels and St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols.

Prior to Los Angeles’ game against the Miami Marlins on Saturday, manager Dave Roberts refused to comment on the reported Pujols signing, since it has yet to become official. But when asked by Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times if he could beat Pujols in a foot race, Roberts said yes.

In case you were wondering, Roberts is currently 48 years old, while Pujols is 41. That is some confidence from the Dodgers skipper.

According to Blake Harris of True Blue L.A., the Pujols signing is expected to become official this Monday. Hence why Roberts could not comment on the reported transaction.

Pujols was entering the final season of his 10-year, $240 million contract with the Angels. The expectation was that Pujols would finish out the season in Anaheim, California. However, the team decided to designate him for assignment earlier this month before Pujols was ultimately waived.

Through 24 games this 2021 campaign, Pujols is slashing .198/.250/.372 while recording five home runs, nine runs scored, 12 RBI and 17 hits.

Pujols remains in the Golden State, but gets to play for the defending World Series champions, who are looking to run it back in 2021. With his career winding down, Pujols now has the opportunity to go out on top by hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy, if he so chooses to hang up his cleats for good.

But since Roberts said he could beat Pujols in a foot race, we are going to need to see him back it up.
