UFC Vegas 27: 3 reasons to watch

The UFC makes its return to ESPN+ on Sat. May 22nd when UFC Vegas 27 airs live with a main card start time of 7pm EST.

This Saturday, UFC bantamweights Cody Garbrandt and Rob Font will square off in sure to be exciting fight. Aside from the main event, other notable fighters like Jack Hermansson, Edmen Shahbazyan and Ricardo Ramos will also be competing on this card. There are a number of exciting matchups taking place on Saturday, here are three reasons to watch UFC Vegas 23.

Main event fireworks

Four of the last five fights that Garbrandt has competed in and 13 of his 15 fights have ended via knockout The last time one of his fights went the distance was during his spectacular performance over Dominick Cruz to capture the UFC bantamweight championship. Regardless of how fans feel about Garbrandt, it is pretty undeniable that he comes ready to put on a show every time he steps inside of the Octagon. Based off of Garbrandt’s track record, it is safe to assume that the main event will provide some fireworks that you will not want to miss.

Thug Rose’s first title challenger?

The co-main event of UFC Vegas 27 will see third ranked strawweight Yan Xiaonan take on the fourth ranked and original UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza. The only fighters ranked ahead of these two are former champions Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Considering the fact that current champion Rose Namajunas knocked out Weili in the first round of their late April fight to capture UFC gold, and Jedrzejczyk being out of action since her all time great fight with Weili in early 2020. It is plausible to see that the co-main event of this Saturday’s card will determine the first challenger to Namajunas’ newly won UFC strawweight championship.

Middleweight showcase

The UFC middleweight division is currently a race to catch champion Israel Adesanya. Despite losing his last fight to Jan Blachowicz, Adesanya is still the king of a very stacked and deep division. The opening fight of this Saturday’s card will pit Jack Hermansson against the 23-year-old Edmen Shahbazyan and should showcase just how good and exciting the UFC middleweight’s division is. With both of these fighters coming off losses, they will surely be looking to redeem themselves and insert themselves in the conversation of middleweight contenders. The winner of this fight probably won’t be getting a title shot afterwards, however the consolation prize of somehow having to face true number one contender Robert Whittaker is a very interesting prospect.
