The latest Klay Thompson injury update will ruin every Golden State Warriors fan’s day.

After having not played a single game for the Golden State Warriors in the last two seasons, the latest injury update for Klay Thompson could not be more depressing.

With the Warriors’ season officially over after their surprising play-in game tournament exit to the Memphis Grizzlies, Thompson and Golden State general manager Bob Myers are of the belief the All-Star shooting guard will not be ready to start the 2021-22 NBA season for the Warriors. Thompson has not played a game since tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals two years ago.

With Thompson on the wrong side of 30, we have to wonder if his best basketball is behind him.

Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson’s latest injury update is a depressing one

When Thompson is healthy, he is one of the best two-way players in the game at his position. While dribbling the basketball has never been his forte, Thompson is a sharpshooter from distance and can guard just about any wing or primary ball handler on the other end of the floor. At his peak, Thompson was one of the best 3-and-D guys in the pace-and-space era of NBA basketball.

Unfortunately, Thompson’s lingering injuries may serve as an excuse for point guard Steph Curry to head elsewhere in NBA free agency in the coming years. Curry may feel like a Golden State lifer, but his style of play will age gracefully and we have to wonder if the Warriors will ever get back to being championship-caliber with this core intact. Thompson’s injury update is such a bummer.

As we eagerly await Thompson’s return to the hardwood, we will now have to wait even longer.
