John Tavares thanked Toronto Maple Leafs fans for their support following his injury and announced he is matching donations up to $50,000 to a trio of charitable partners.

Toronto Maple Leafs captain was stretchered off the ice last week after a scary collision with Montreal Canadians forward Corey Perry. On Wednesday, he published a thank you note to Leafs Nation for their overwhelming support during this time.

Many fans have shown their support by contributing to Tavares’ charitable partners. As such, Tavares and his wife, Aryne, announced they will be matching donations made to three local charities during the Leafs playoff run.

“To keep the positive momentum going during the Maple Leafs playoff run, we will personally match every donation (up to $50,000) to further support our great partners,” the Tavares’ statement reads. “We look forward to working closely with these amazing organizations to positively impact the lives of children in need.”

Tavares has been released from the hospital and is resting at home. He is doing well but will be out indefinitely and is likely to miss the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, unless by some miracle the Leafs make their first Stanley Cup Final appearance in more than 50 years. Even then, that’s still a quick recovery time after taking a serious hit.
