Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman hit a walk-off home run to beat the New York Yankees with a 3-2 count and two outs in the 10th inning.

On the final strike for the last out of the 10th inning between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees, Robbie Grossman struck gold.

The outfielder hit a two-run home run to lift Detroit in extra innings. 3-2.

He knew it as soon as it left his bat.

“I put a good swing on it and luckily, I had enough to get it in the stands,” Grossman said on the Bally Sports Detroit postgame show. “I’m just glad we won that game. It’s cold out, man.”

At first pitch in Detroit, the temperature was 45 degrees, and it only got colder and windier as the night rolled on without a resolution. Grossman’s swing gave the Tigers a win and the fans who stuck around for extra-innings a celebration before heading home to get warm.

Robbie Grossman delivered an improbable walk-off to burn the Yankees

Some of those fans were probably gearing up for disappointment as the game neared its end. In the top of the 10th, Aaron Judge scored on a passed ball, putting the Yankees ahead 2-1. Grossman worked the count but also came perilously close to striking out before he could make contact on the final swing.

The Tigers improved to 20-31, but they’re still at the bottom of the AL Central. It’ll feel good as the second win in Detroit’s last seven games.

The loss hurts the Yankees more than anything. New York is 29-22 and third in the AL East. They’ve lost three of four.

The only people happier about the walk-off than Tigers fans will be Boston Red Sox fans. They beat the Miami Marlins in a game called because of rain before getting to watch their rivals drop a heartbreaker.
