During the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery, the Buffalo Sabres were awarded the No. 1 overall pick and fans are going nuts.

All eyes for hockey fans were on the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery Wednesday night. Entering things, the Buffalo Sabres held the best odds to seal the No. 1 pick, while fans of the Seattle Kraken were hopeful they’d end up with it.

Alas, it wasn’t meant to be for the expansion team, as Buffalo indeed will select No. 1 overall once the draft arrives in late July. As you might have been able to guess, fans took over Twitter as soon as Buffalo won the lottery, with some truly priceless posts being sent.

NHL fans are losing their minds over the Buffalo Sabres landing the No. 1 overall pick

With Buffalo getting the top pick, the assumption is they’re going to waste zero time in selecting Michigan’s Owen Power. He’s highly regarded as the top prospect in the upcoming draft. For Buffalo, you know they’re fired up at the thought of potentially landing him. As for everyone else, it might take a while to fully realize that the Sabres are going No. 1.

As you can see from the posts above, fans wasted no time in trolling Buffalo. Some are going as far as to say that Power is going to be a bust if he ends up with them. Others even mentioned both the Sabres and Kraken starting from scratch.

As funny as that is, that’s not what Buffalo supporters want to see. After a rough 2020-21 campaign, which saw the team miss out on the postseason, Sabres fans are hopeful the team can turn things around next season. Landing a guy like Power will certainly be a game-changer for years to come. Now we’ll wait and see if Buffalo does end up taking him at No. 1.
