The Atlanta Falcons posted a goodbye tribute for Julio Jones, and fans aren’t thrilled they traded away a franchise icon.

Jones was traded away for a second-round and fourth-round pick(s), while the Falcons sent their star wideout and a sixth rounder back the other way. It speaks to the Titans buying low on a 32-year-old pass-catcher coming off injury, but also the Falcons being open for business and ready for a rebuild. Julio was one of their best remaining aging assets.

With Jones in tow, the Titans instantly separate themselves as favorites in the AFC South, and are among the top contenders in the conference. Sure, they’re not the Chiefs, but Tennessee’s offense is scary on paper. The defense remains a concern, but they’ve tried to address that to some extent this offseason, signing Bud Dupree and drafting Caleb Farley.

Atlanta Falcons fans are unhappy with team’s tribute to Julio Jones

As every team does after saying goodbye to a longtime franchise icon, the Falcons posted several tributes once the trade became official.

The video tribute was a little less vague, and was received far better than the original photo.

Still, fans weren’t thrilled.

Atlanta sports lost another one.

All in all, the trade wasn’t necessarily a bad one from the Falcons point of view. Julio’s best days in the ATL were behind him.

The Falcons weren’t going to compete as constructed, and the best way to rebuild is through the draft. That doesn’t make it hurt any less for fans who grew up watching Matt Ryan to Julio Jones connections every Sunday, though.
