Umpire Larry Vanover wasn’t having any of Trevor Bauer’s complaints in the Dodgers afternoon matchup against the Braves in Atlanta.

Vanover silenced any and all criticism of his strike zone before Bauer even got in a comment. Bauer routinely is not afraid to make his thoughts known, whether that’s on the field, in the media or on social media.

All Vanover wants is silence while he’s at work. Is that so much to ask?

You could tell Bauer didn’t love the call on his pitch to Ozzie Albies, which just missed on the outside part of the plate. Umpires are under a lot of pressure these days, especially with literal social media accounts monitoring their every move. We assure you, Umpire Auditor is all over that one.

Dodgers: Should Larry Vanover have let Trevor Bauer speak?

Typically, umpires are in favor of an open discussion as long as it’s respectful of the rules and those who make the calls. Vanover, however, wasn’t in the mood.

Bauer’s reputation precedes him in this case, and makes it tough for him to get a word in with a veteran umpire who’s likely not willing to hear him out anyway. So, from Vanover’s perspective, what’s the point of said banter?
