The New York Yankees may need to make a trade to improve their outfield and overall lineup.

In a season with great expectations, things have not gone over well for the New York Yankees.

As one of a handful of teams who could realistically win the AL pennant this year, the Yankees have come out of the gate rather uninspired. New York enters Tuesday night’s road date vs. the Minnesota Twins at 31-29 on the year. That is good enough for fourth place in the deep AL East. With the Aaron Hicks wrist injury, a glaring need exists for the Yankees to address in the outfield.

Here are three players the Yankees should seriously look at acquiring to fix this by the deadline.

The Miami Marlins’ slow start could make Starling Marte very expendable

A year ago, the upstart Miami Marlins seemed to arrive a year ahead of schedule. They overcame an internal COVID-19 outbreak to make the NL postseason and defeat the Chicago Cubs in their NL Wild Card series. Sadly, that promising 2020 campaign has not translated into 2021 success for the Fish. Miami finds itself in last place in the bad NL East at a dismal 25-34 on the season.

One player who will be expendable for the Marlins is outfielder Starling Marte. He is having a solid year for them, as he is slashing .322/.429/.552 on the season. While he did miss the second half of April and almost all of May with a rib fracture, Marte is an impending free agent who can be counted on to man centerfield and play at a high level in meaning baseball games. He is an option.
