From the West Coast to West Texas, the Stanford Cardinal has hit the road and is set to face the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the next round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

As the No. 8 and No. 9 national seeds in the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament, Texas Tech and Stanford should theoretically provide the most intriguing Super Regional. At least, in theory, these two teams should be the closest in terms of quality as they are seeded right next to each other.

Texas Tech is serving as the host of the Super Regional as it is set in Lubbock. The Red Raiders are 39-15 overall and have a 14-10 conference record that features a sweep of the No. 2 national seed, the Texas Longhorns.

And sure, Tech’s conference record could be better, but it’s the Red Raiders’ home record that is truly noteworthy here. In 2021, Texas Tech went 24-5 at home.

The Cardinal doesn’t have the best road record ever, but Stanford is a very solid team. With a 36-15 overall record and a 17-10 conference record, this group certainly did very well for itself throughout the regular season and up to this point.

But Stanford, like Texas Tech, thrived at home. That should be at least a little concerning for Stanford as the Cardinal got 23 of its wins at home and managed to go 13-10 on the road. The Lubbock Super Regional could be interesting if Stanford struggles away from home.

For the most part, Stanford seemed solid in its regional. The Cardinal beat North Dakota State 9-1 and UC Irvine 12-4, but then turned around and lost to UC Irvine 8-4. The Cardinal needed to bounce back, and did, beating UC Irvine 11-8 to advance on to Lubbock.

In the Lubbock Regional, the Red Raiders swept their opponents and won each game by an average of 4.67 runs. The Red Raiders didn’t struggle one bit, beating Army 6-3, North Carolina 7-2, and UCLA 8-2.
