A key piece to the Oklahoma defense could be facing a suspension after being arrested on Sunday.

Oklahoma All-Big 12 defensive lineman Isaiah Thomas was arrested on Sunday morning on charges of a DUI and petty larceny.

Thomas is heading into his redshirt senior season with the Sooners after having a breakout season in 2020. In his freshman and sophomore seasons, he combined for just 11 tackles and two sacks.

Last season, he led the team in both sacks with 7.5 and tackles for loss with 13 while playing both defensive tackle and end. He also added a total of 32 tackles en route to an All-Big 12 second-team selection.

Isaiah Thomas could now be a key piece that is missing at the beginning of Oklahoma’s 2021 season

Thomas was a four-star recruit out of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the class of 2017 and looks to be a key piece of an Oklahoma team that looks to contend for a Big 12 title and a national championship behind star quarterback Spencer Rattler in 2021.

Thomas also will be looking to build on his breakout season in 2021 and earn himself a spot on an NFL roster in 2022.

Depending on a potential suspension, he could be up to miss some crucial games at the start of the season, including their season opener against Tulsa on Sept. 4, their home matchup with old Big 12 rival Nebraska on Sept. 18, and their Big 12 opener at home against West Virginia on Sept. 25.

Only time will tell what will come of this situation, but Lincoln Riley has shown action in disciplining players in the past. He kicked two players off just last month for their roles in a robbery.

This is obviously not as extreme as that incident, but his charges of a DUI and petty theft lead one to believe that Thomas could be facing a suspension from Oklahoma soon.
