PFL 5: Marthin Hamlet is the fighter to watch

Marthin Hamlet is the fighter to watch at PFL 5.

PFL 5 will see Rory MacDonald take on former UFC fighter Gleison Tibau in the main event. MacDonald is the early favorite by many to win the PFL Welterweight Tournament for the 2021 season. Yet, despite MacDonald’s marque and stature in the sport, you should really be paying attention to Norweigan fighter Marthin Hamlet.

The 7-1 light heavyweight fighter is listed as being 29 years old and is currently undefeated in his PFL career (1-0). During his career, he’s finished five of his fights by submission or KO/TKO and is quickly becoming one of the more interesting names on the brand. Finishes are a big deal in the sport and if he can keep his winning ways going then he may not just be a big deal for the PFL brass but for MMA as a whole.

Hamlet has Corey Hendricks at PFL 5, and a win over Hendricks will surely get people talking about Hamlet, especially if he wins via stoppage.

Marthin Hamlet was in demand

Fans of PFL nearly missed out on Hamlet, as he was apparently about to sign with the UFC. Hamlet’s lone loss so far in his career was to Modestas Bukauskas, and Hamlet believes that had he won that fight he’d have been on the UFC card in Denmark.

How close Hamlet was to actually signing a UFC fight contract is anyone’s guess but considering his ferocity as a fighter, it’s not out of the realm of possibility to think the two sides were talking before the Bukauskas. By Hamlet’s own words, according to CageSidePress, he didn’t feel he was ready for the UFC stage at the time of his loss. He no longer feels overwhelmed.

Now Hamlet is looking at becoming one of the best names in the sport at light heavyweight and that trek is already underway.

PFL 5 takes place on June 17th, 2021, live from the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Follow along with FanSided for all your live news and highlights.
