If the Dallas Mavericks want to keep star Luka Doncic happy, they must consider hiring these three coaches to replace Rick Carlisle.

There are more than a handful of head coaching vacancies in the NBA, and it grew by one courtesy of the Dallas Mavericks. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped the bombshell that Rick Carlisle opted to part ways with the Mavericks, one day after the team fired president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson.

The news did come as a shock, considering Carlisle helped bring the organization their first NBA championship. However, Wojnarowski and ESPN colleague Tim MacMahon reported that there was tension between Carlisle and star Luka Doncic, highlighted by the guard showing up his head coach.

The Mavericks are in a position where they must keep Doncic happy, since he is on the verge of becoming a top-five player in the NBA. They can do so by hiring one of these three coaches to replace Carlisle this offseason.

Jamahl Mosley, Mavericks

We start things off with Mavericks assistant coach Jamahl Mosley, who has been with the organization since 2014. Mosley makes this list because he is named by Wojnarowski and MacMahon as a potential candidate to replace Carlise because he has a strong relationship with Doncic.

Mosley got a taste of head coaching on an acting basis back on Apr. 2 against the New York Knicks due to Carlisle received a false positive COVID-19 test result. The Mavericks went on to win the game 99-86 and Mosley received some lofty praise from Doncic, who said he has “the things that are needed to be a head coach.”

This offseason could very well be the opportunity or Mosley to receive his first head coaching gig in the NBA. Since Doncic does have great chemistry with the assistant coach, all it could take is an endorsement by the star to owner Mark Cuban to get a deal done.
