After a disappointing loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, this is why Clemson win a third national championship under Dabo Swinney.

It is no secret that Clemson is one of college football’s premier dynasties, and with four top-10 recruiting classes in the last four years, that looks to continue.

Dabo Swinney is of course still at the helm of the Tigers, and that could be a reason that Clemson will win another national championship all on its own. Swinney has a proven pedigree of winning, both in the ACC and in the College Football Playoff. With two national championships already under his belt and a whole lot more appearances to go with it, there are plenty of reasons to believe Clemson can get to the top again. Even if it is without Trevor Lawrence.

Clemson is among the favorites to return to the playoff with Alabama and Ohio State this season. Here are two reasons why the Tigers can find themselves on the top of the mountain for a third time in the CFP era this coming season.

2. DJ Uiagalelei is the real deal

Sure, he’s no Trevor Lawrence, but Uiagalelie is more than qualified to lead the Tigers to a national championship next season.

First, and most importantly, he is oozing with talent. A five-star and top ten recruit out of California in the class of 2020, Uiajalelei is just the type of player that works in this Clemson offense. He’s big, standing at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, and he can sling the ball all over the field. But unlike new quarterbacks at places like Ohio State and Alabama, Uiagalelei has had the playing time to prove it.

He came in and replaced Lawrence when the star quarterback was ruled out because of COVID-19 protocols last year, and while he lost the game against Notre Dame, he still impressed with 429 passing yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Fighting Irish.

Then against Boston College, Uiagaleilei led the Tigers to a comeback victory before Lawrence came back and took the reigns the next week.

So sure, Clemson fans are probably right to be a little worried that Lawrence won’t be behind center this season, but in the long run, they’ll be just fine when Uiagelelei makes an All-ACC team and helps the Tigers to another impressive CFP run.
