What sports are in the 2021 Olympics?

The 2021 Olympics in Tokyo will have a few new events to watch.

The Olympics are just around the corner and this year is expected to be one of the more jam-packed editions since the games started. A total of 339 events from within 33 sports will be played at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games according to OlympicVenues.com.

Aquatics, your swimming, diving, water polo, etc, will feature the most combined events with 49, while track and field events (aka athletics) will feature the second most events, with 48 in total. Wrestling will also feature quite a bit, with 18 different events being held.

Newcomers to the Olympic games include karate, surfing, sport climbing, and skateboarding. Baseball and softball are also in the 2020 games, but they were Olympic Sports previously before being removed.

As you can see, there are a lot of opportunities in some disciplines to win a medal, while not so much in others. It’s not just sports that are joining but different versions, as basketball will add a three on three version for this year’s game to go with the five-on-five traditional game.

Archery will also see a new event added, a mixed team event, while boxing will have more female weight classes added, fencing will see all six team events represented, judo has gotten a new category where three-man and three-woman form a mixed-team of six competitors for team competition. That just some of the new events added.
