Which Team USA athletes have won the most Olympic medals all time? Will any of them be competing in the 2021 Olympics?

With a collective 2,523 medals at the Summer Olympics, Team USA has won more than twice as many medals as any other nation. The dominance of American Olympians spans so many sports, it’s easy to lose track.

That said, 10 Team USA athletes have set themselves apart by filling up their trophy cases with at least 10 Olympic medals each. With Tokyo 2021 fast approaching, let’s take a look at the American Olympians with the highest medal counts.

10. Gary Hall Jr.

Medal count: 10 (5 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze)

Sport: Swimming

Games attended: 1996, 2000, 2004

Famous for his wrestling-esque antics before a race, Gary Hall Jr. won 10 medals over the course of three Olympic Games from 1996 to 2004. The sprint freestyle specialist would often strut onto the pool deck in American flag boxer shorts and a robe, flexing and shadow boxing for the crowd.

Hall Jr. won back-to-back individual gold medals in the 50 m freestyle A.K.A. the “splash and dash” at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympics along with three relay golds. His father, Gary Hall Sr., and maternal uncle both swam at the Olympics.
