UFC Vegas 31: Daniel Rodriguez defeated Preston Parsons.

Daniel Rodriguez defeated Preston Parsons via TKO (strikes), Round 1 – 3:47 at UFC Vegas 31 on Saturday, July 17, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV.

“I figured it was my time to attack. I knew I didn’t poke him in the eye,” said Rodriguez following the knockout.

Parsons was aggressive to start the fight, going for takedowns. Rodriguez’s offense relied heavily on leg kicks. The two fighters traded punches, with Parsons landing a combination. Rodriguez stunned Parsons with a powerful left hand. Rodriguez was relentless as he walked down Parsons. A big shot dropped Parsons. Rodriguez landed another powerful strike that split the defense. Parsons briefly fought his way off the fence with a counter but Rodriguez came right back and finished the fight. Rodriguez landed a straight left that sent Parsons back into the fence before dropping to his knees. Rodriguez jumped on top of Parsons and reigned down strikes. Referee Mike Beltran saw enough and stopped the fight.

Rodriguez was originally supposed to fight Abubakar Nurmagomedov. However, Nurmagomedov was forced to pull out of the fight with an injury and was replaced by Parsons, who made his UFC debut on Saturday. Since making his UFC debut last year, Rodriguez is 4-1 in the promotion. In his last fight, Rodriguez defeated Mike Perry.

Parsons entered the Octagon with a 9-2 record, with all nine of his victories being submissions.  The Florida native submitted Jeff Peterson in the second round in his last fight on June 5, 2021. Parsons and Rodriguez have had one common opponent. In Parsons’ third career fight, he was knocked out by Perry.
