A New York Yankees fan threw a ball at Alex Verdugo and the Boston Red Sox in the sixth inning of Saturday night’s ball game.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo was patrolling left field at Yankee Stadium when a fan threw a baseball at him.

Outraged, Verdugo then got into a shouting match with New York Yankees fans sitting beyond the outfield wall, causing a delay in the game. Boston manager Alex Cora pulled his team off the field in what was an ugly situation for baseball.

Here’s a video of teammates attempting to calm Verdugo down while officials tried to determine who threw the ball.

We don’t know who needs to hear this, but throwing a baseball at someone with their back turned is not cool. Not only is it incredibly disrespectful, but it’s also dangerous.

Verdugo and the Red Sox had every right to be furious. We know things tend to get heated between the Yankees and the Red Sox, but this is a bad look for New Yorkers.

We realize Yankees fans may have some pent-up frustration this season given their team’s middle-of-the-pack record. But if you cannot keep your cool, please stay away from the ballpark.
