Eagles insider gives big update on tight end Zach Ertz

According to Philadelphia insider Howard Eskin, tight end Zach Ertz is expected to be present for the start of training camp on Tuesday.

For what’s felt like an eternity, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz has been mentioned in trade rumors. Word spread that Ertz was seeking a trade too. Now, though, it looks like things have quieted down and the veteran is ready to try and help the team out in 2021.

According to team insider Howard Eskin, Ertz has been working out at the Eagles facility the past two weeks with teammates. On top of that, Eskin says the expectation is that Ertz will be suited up for the first day of training camp on Tuesday.

Due to an ankle injury last season, Ertz was only able to appear in 11 games. His stats weren’t what former head coach Doug Pederson was hoping for, as the 6-foot-5, 250-pounder was only able to record 36 receptions for 335 yards and one touchdown.

Before that, though, he was spectacular for the Eagles, helping the team win the Super Bowl in the 2017 campaign. In 2018, he caught 116 balls for 1,163 yards and eight scores. However, last season really was one to forget.

Throughout this offseason, he’s been on trade watch basically every day. With that said, the feeling is that Ertz will be ready to try and give things another go with Philadelphia and help them get back on track.

With Nick Sirianni getting ready for his first season in town, he’ll need all of the playmakers to step up and help out second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts. With Ertz (presumably) not being traded, he’ll be quite the target for Hurts to throw at.
