New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole seems to have embraced the hatred for the Red Sox in this longstanding MLB rivalry.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have had a long history of intense games and bad blood. For years these teams have been fueled by wanting to dominate the other. They met again on Friday night, and it seems like pitcher Gerrit Cole has embraced the spirit of this heated rivalry.

At least that is the best guess for why the star pitcher looked so angry while at the mound. Of course, it could also be because of his less-than-stellar outing during the game.

The Yankees need these wins against the Red Sox to make up ground in the AL East. Unfortunately, things didn’t start well for New York as they trailed Boston 3-1. Gerrit Cole gave up three runs by the sixth inning, and he didn’t look too happy about it. It was that or relishing in the hatred his team has for the Red Sox.

When Cole has that look on his face, he usually means business. He will need to have his seething face on for the rest of his starts if he wants to get the Yankees to the playoffs. They are 4.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot, and missing the playoffs is not how Cole wants to start his tenure in New York.
